What is The Paper about?

From the team behind The Office US comes new mockumentary, The Paper – a semi-sequel to the beloved long-running sitcom.

In this world, following the success of the original office-based documentary, the camera crew and production team decide to focus on The Truth Teller, a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it as their next subjects.

Set in Toledo, Ohio, The Truth Teller has opted to use volunteer reporters in order to keep their paper afloat – and each one of them have their own unique quirks and desires to be taken seriously as journalists.

However, as the team battle against the internet and print media continues to die out, they need to think on their feet in order to get the recognition they deserve.

Leading the team is the hopeful new editor, Ned Sampson, who wants to restore the Truth Teller to its former glory – much to the annoyance of managing editor Esmerelda Grand, who is not happy that someone new is treading on her well-worn turf.

The series is set in the same universe as The Office US, and is created, written and executive produced by The Office US’s Greg Daniels under his banner Deedle-Dee Productions, and Nathan For You’s Michael Koman.

Executive Producers are Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas (formerly Reveille). From Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The first season was released in September 2025, with season two launching on September 10th, 2026.
