Who stars in Game of Throws?

The key stars of Game of Throws are:

Luke Littler

Teenage sensation Luke has taken the darting world by storm over the last 12 months, following up his historic run to January’s World Championship final by capturing the Premier League title in fairy-tale fashion on debut.

Littler landed a nine-darter in that Premier League final – one of four perfect legs he’s produced in 2024 – and his haul of nine titles in 2024 includes the World Series of Darts Finals, World Series event wins in Bahrain and Poland, European Tour successes in Belgium and Austria, and victory on his Players Championship bow in February.

Luke Humphries

World Champion Luke has enjoyed a sensational rise to prominence since winning his first TV title at last year’s World Grand Prix, following up with Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals success before a famous victory at Alexandra Palace in January, aged just 16 when the tournament started.

The world number one steered England to a record-breaking victory on his World Cup of Darts debut in June and added the World Matchplay title to his résumé in July, to continue his remarkable consistency on the sport’s biggest stages.

Michael Van Gerwen

Dutch superstar Michael has won over 150 tournaments throughout an astonishing career, including three World Championships, seven Premier Leagues and six World Grand Prix titles.

The 35-year-old has shattered a host of records throughout the last decade, and he’s scooped four titles in 2024, following up World Series success in Den Bosch with a brace of Players Championship titles and a European Tour crown in Hungary. The Dutchman is regarded as one of the sport’s greatest ever players.

Michael Smith

World number two Michael made his big breakthrough in the latter stages of 2022, following up his maiden televised triumph at the Grand Slam of Darts with a historic World Championship victory in January 2023 at Alexandra Palace.

The St Helens star has enjoyed a successful 2024 so far, guiding England to World Cup of Darts glory alongside Luke Humphries as well as finishing runner-up at the World Series of Darts Finals and reaching the Premier League semi-finals.

Rob Cross

Revitalised Rob has enjoyed a successful 2024 so far, following up his second European Tour title in Kiel by reaching three consecutive World Series event finals, winning the US Darts Masters in New York before finishing runner-up in Copenhagen and Poland.

The 2018 World Champion celebrated a landmark World Matchplay success five years ago and has since added a brace of European Championship titles to his résumé, underlining his status as one of the sport’s premier players.

James Wade

James is the sport’s most successful left-hander, having lifted 11 televised PDC titles throughout a glittering career at the top level.

The 41-year-old has won a hat-trick of UK Open titles, two World Grand Prix crowns and also celebrated World Matchplay glory in 2007, and he’s enjoyed a resurgence over the last six months, as he closes in on a return to the world’s top ten.

Nathan Aspinall

Fan favourite Nathan - a World Matchplay champion in July 2023 - is currently on the comeback trail following a two-month injury lay-off during the summer.

Prior to his enforced break, Aspinall reached the semi-finals of February’s Masters, and narrowly missed out on a Premier League Play-Off place in May, having enjoyed night wins in Exeter and Rotterdam.

Emma Paton

Emma Paton is a Sky Sports presenter fronting darts, football, tennis and Sky Sports News. Emma has led Sky’s darts coverage since 2020, hosting all major tournaments including the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace (the 2024 tournament was the most viewed non-football event ever on Sky Sports).

Emma is also part of Sky’s football roster, presenting EFL coverage, and their tennis team which includes presenting and reporting on the US Open from Flushing Meadows.

She is a regular presenter on Sky Sports News, most notably fronting their award-winning football transfer coverage. She is also a Sports Journalism Awards winner having hosted the award-winning podcast series ‘Football’s Cult Heroes’.

Russ Bray

Russ Bray is one of the best-known darts referees. Called ‘The Voice’ due to his unique style of calling and raspy voice, the former police officer began his career in 1996 when the regular caller failed to turn up for a county match.

Originally, Bray was a caller for a county player for Hertfordshire and subsequently went on to play on the pro circuit, famously teaming up with Eric Bristow.

In November 2023, Bray announced his retirement from full-time refereeing, but he continues to be an ambassador for the sport. His final match at Alexandra Palace of 2024 was the Luke Humphries/Luke Littler final. Off the stage, Bray is an avid supporter of West Ham United.

Bhav Patel

Bhav Patel is a relative newcomer to the world of darts, having only picked up the sport in the past few years.

He found himself on the sport’s biggest stage as the India qualifier following Prakash Jiwa’s suspension for the 2024 PDC World Championship, playing at the famous Alexandra Palace.

Outside of darts, Bhav is a full-time pharmacist and is from London.
