Season 1 Episodes Recap

Season one of The White Lotus unfolds over six episodes – and starts with us at the airport, being told by newlywed Shane that a body is being loaded onto the plane. The question is: Whose body is it?

Episode 1: Arrivals

At the beginning of the week, the affluent guests of The White Lotus arrive via boat to the resort and are greeted by Armond – the tightly wound manager of the establishment.

Wanting everything to be absolutely perfect, it doesn’t take long for the demands to start coming in. For Tanya – it’s a massage, for Shane, it’s the honeymoon suite he believes his mother bought for him and new wife, Rachel.

Chaos ensues when Shane refuses to let the room discrepancy go, and Lani, a trainee at the hotel, goes into labour on her first day in Armond’s office. Meanwhile guest Mark Mossbacher becomes convinced he has cancer despite pleas to relax from wife Nicole. As he waits for doctor’s results, he tries to make memories with son, Quinn, while his snooty daughter Olivia lounges by the pool with friend Paula who’s tagged along on the trip.

At least Tanya’s off to a good start – becoming obsessed with spa manager Belinda after a life-changing head massage and consultation.

Episode 2: New Day

Olivia and Paula get high on weed in the room, as Mark gets the all clear from his doctor. Mark later learns news about his father that throws him into another tailspin.

Shane, still obsessing over the Pineapple Suite, calls his mother for back-up over the error.

Rachel, annoyed by Shane, starts questioning her ability to be a journalist, which only gets worse after a conversation with Nicole, whom she’s previously written about, and Shane, who’s dismissive of her career as a whole.

Olivia and Paula take ketamine on the beach, but when they’re interrupted and run off, their bag filled with various drugs ends up in the possession of Armond – a former addict.

Olivia later gets jealous of Paula flirting with a waiter, and then kicks brother Quinn out of their room, prompting him to head to the beach.

Tanya has a business offer for Belinda to consider.

Episode 3: Mysterious Monkeys

Quinn’s left furious when he wakes up to find his phone washed away by the tide. Mark continues to process revelations about his dad, leading to some awkward propositions.

Armond has a surprise in store for Shane as their hatred for each other grows. Rachel continues to face doubts about her marriage.

Tanya continues to lean on Belinda, especially when it comes to support spreading her mother’s ashes.

Olivia catches Paula in the act with one of the staff members.

Episode 4: Recentering

Quinn’s affinity with the beach and away from a screen grows. Later, Mark’s attempts to bond with his son come with some major confessions. Armond has a decision to make when Paula discovers the truth about her bag.

Meanwhile, Armond and Shane continue to antagonise each other, with Shane discovering her information that gives him the upper hand.

Shane’s mother makes a surprise appearance on her son’s honeymoon.

Tanya is asked out on a date.

Dillon finds a way to get an advantage at work.

Episode 5: The Lotus Eaters

With everything that’s happened on the honeymoon, Rachel begins to seriously rethink her marriage to Shane.

Armond is forced to do some damage control for the sake of his and the hotel’s reputation.

Belinda feels her business opportunity with Tanya slipping as Tanya grows closer to Greg.

Quinn continues to spend as much time as possible in the sea, leading to a potentially life-changing idea.

Paula turns on the Mossbachers, and hatches a plan against them with the help of Kai the waiter. But things soon go awry and could lead to even more trouble.

Episode 6: Departures

The guests’ time at the resort has come to an end – with Rachel and Shane’s marriage possibly not surviving the honeymoon.

Olivia and Paula go head-to-head over what happened with the Mossbachers, but is it enough to destroy the friendship? Meanwhile Quinn finds himself in trouble with his parents when he shares his idea to remain in Hawaii.

Shane discovers information that could finally settle the score he has with Armond, prompting Armond to leave him a ‘parting gift’.

Tanya appears to get her happy ending, but at what cost to Belinda?

As the group head to the airport, decisions – and the dead body’s identity – reveal themselves.
